Three days Training on Map reading, GPS for Forest Mapping and Google earth
|1||Refreshing various records of the Forest Department related to Forest boundaries i.e Survey Sheets, Compartment History Files and boundaries register etc and its use.
Basic of map reading and how to read a map and its use for management of Forest. The topics to be covered are:
– Scale of map and R/F
– Latitude and Longitude
– Contour Lines:- vertical distance, contour interval, bench mark etc.
-Terrain features:- Hill, ridge, valley, saddle and depression etc.
– examine the legend.

|2||Overview of Global Positioning System (GPS) and GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) GPS receiver, software operation and configuration. Discussion.
Hands on GPS (field exercise)- lying out of track, polygon of plantations and point features.
|3||Understanding Google Earth and uploading GPS data in Google earth (Lab exercise)
Hands on GPS by conducting a GPS field mission and discussing the problems faced during survey using GPS.
Uploading polygons/tracks in Google earth and its conversion to KML file format (Lab exercise).
